Network Engineer – Viatel

JOB PURPOSE

In this position, you will form part Viatels Network Operations team, both provisioning and supporting Customer services. You will also become part of the on-call rota, responsible for out-of-hour’s fault escalations from Viatels 24x7x365 NOC.

While the vast majority of the role is based locally from Dublin, there may be a requirement for Irish and European travel from time to time.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provisioning of new IP, Cloud and/or Voice services for customers, including upgrades and changes where necessary.
• Providing point of escalation for IP, Cloud and Voice faults on the Viatel network
• Administering, monitoring, and optimising networks & services
• Scripting as required to improve efficiency of working
• Customer and pre-sales support, including documentation of networks and solutions
• Training and assisting other technical teams and preparation of associated technical documentation

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Technical

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an ISP, carrier, cloud or managed service provider
• Experience in dealing with Enterprise Customers on a technical level for delivery of premium services
• Practical and hands-on understanding of Cisco, Juniper and Huawei equipment (routers, switches and firewalls) with particular emphasis on management and provisioning of MPLS, and Ethernet services
• Previous experience in SIP / VoIP services at a carrier level is essential for this role
• Knowledge of cloud technologies is a real bonus
• Experience in Cirpack voice platform is an advantage
• Experience in scripting languages and automation is a distinct advantage
• Linux experience an advantage
• Experience in using ancillary network tools like Nagios, Radius, Cacti and other monitoring / troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, iPerf, etc.)
• Ability to work on own initiative without constant supervision
• Ability to liaise with customers and to capture relevant information for more complex technical installations.
